Hericium erinaceus (also called lion's mane mushroom, yamabushitake, monkey head mushroom, bearded tooth mushroom, satyr's beard, bearded hedgehog mushroom, pom pom mushroom, or bearded tooth fungus) is an edible mushroom belonging to the tooth fungus group. Native to North America, Europe and Asia it can be identified by its long spines (greater than 1 cm length), its appearance on hardwoods and its tendency to grow a single clump of dangling spines.
If eaten when young, its texture is like seafood and the Chinese include it in their cuisine in place of lamb or even pork. In particular in Asia it is popular as a health food.
Oriveda Lion's Mane is currently a combination of two separate supplements that reinforce and complement each other, and which can be mixed, dosed and balanced against each other according to your own liking.
When you order "one" Lion's Mane, you will receive 2 separate packets:
- a full spectrum, lossless 1:1 hot water fruiting body extract, 180 capsules @ 300 mg
- a pharma-grade pure mycelium alcohol extract, 120 capsules @ 450 mg.

Directions:
Part 1: Fruiting Body Water Extract: 3 capsules per day
- The water extract should be taken on an empty stomach, preferably with some vitamin C to optimize the absorption of beta-glucan.
- More is recommended if you are over 50 years of age.
Part 2: Mycelium Alcohol Extract: 2 capsules per day
- The alcohol extract should be taken with food, but avoid dairy products containing lactose. Lactose appears to neutralize the antioxidant effects of polyphenols.
- More is not necessarily better with this extract.
It's always best to spread the intake over the day in case you take both or also other supplements daily or a high dosage.
NOTE:
For some people these recommendations might not work as expected. No matter what, feel free to experiment: change the dosage, try a different balance of the two products or swap from the water extract to the alcohol extract after a few days / weeks. Whatever works best for you. Don't expect overnight miracles; effects will most likely be more pronounced after 4-6 weeks. There should be room for improvement of course.
If itchy skin occurs, unless accompanied by signs of allergy, this should be benign.

All capsules 100% HPMC (Hypromellose), vegetarian. No fillers or additives, GMO-free, non-irradiated. This product does not contain allergens.
Note: The product is sold in capsules to make dosing easier. We do not add flow agents or fillers to the extract powder; you get what you pay for, 100% extract. However, a side effect of the lack of additives is that the extract powder in the capsules can solidify. All extracts, but alcohol extracts in particular, absorb moisture easily, causing the extract particles to clump together. General guidelines:
This product does not contain toxins, psychotropic substances or other harmful substances. It is not addictive. It is not possible to overdose and there are no known harmful side effects. In general it can be used together with medication and will not affect the intended effect of that medication.
If you do not want to consume the capsules: they are easy to open (just pull them apart) and you can dissolve the extract powder that's inside in warm water.
Warnings:
Do not use mushroom extracts when on immune-suppressing medication, e.g. after an organ transplant. The immune-modulating properties of mushroom extracts high in beta-glucan can act against the medication. For people who are highly susceptible to swings in blood sugar levels (usually the same people that have problems with alcohol and caffeine): mushroom extracts high in beta-glucan can have an effect on blood sugar levels. People using insulin (such as diabetics) might have to adjust their medication. There are reports stating that taking mushroom extracts can cause a feeling of fatigue or dizziness in these cases because blood sugar levels fall too low. Taking the product together with some sugar-containing beverage (such as freshly squeezed fruit juice also contains vitamin C (!)) might help. Since the effect on pregnant and breastfeeding women has never been researched, we recommend against using mushroom extracts in these situations. General Cautions:Keep away from children. Oriveda's lossless 1:1 hot water extract contains the full Lion's Mane fruiting body in a bioavailable form. Nothing was filtered out, both soluble and insoluble bioactives are still present in their natural synergy. In this case 'lossless' is crucial because we want the product to be 100% in line with the existing clinical research.
Concentrated water extracts are not in line with LM research because all non-soluble matter was filtered out, including terpenes and many other potentially interesting compounds.
Three out of four human case studies were done with non-extracted dried Lion's Mane fruiting body powder; by extracting this dried powder (like we did) the bioavailability / therapeutic effect increases ± 4 - 10 times according to research, and the required dosage drops from ± 2 - 3 grams daily to ± 600 - 900 mg daily.
So there might be other yet unknown bioactive compounds or synergetic combinations of compounds present and it therefore makes perfect sense to use an unfiltered 1:1 extract instead of a more concentrated / filtered extract.
Oriveda 's pharmaceutical grade mycelium extract is the worlds first and only alcohol extract based on pure liquid-grown mycelium. The emphasis is on the alcohol-soluble terpenes / terpenoids; i.p. a group of diterpenes known as erinacines.
Erinacines are considered to be the most powerful NGF-inducers in Lion's Mane. They are only found in the mycelium. We have used a special formula for the liquid substrate in which the mycelium is growing; its purpose is to increase the production of erinacines.
